Semrush One review — the pros and cons for ecommerce merchants

Semrush One review

Semrush has been a go-to SEO tool for ecommerce businesses for years — helping merchants research product keywords, analyse competitors’ stores, audit sites, and monitor rankings. But with big shifts in consumer habits, where online shopping is increasingly happening via conversations with AI chatbots, focusing only on ‘classic’ Google SEO to generate traffic to your store is becoming increasingly risky.

Semrush One is Semrush’s response to this problem: it’s a version of its platform designed to help you understand your brand’s visibility in both traditional search results and AI-powered answers.

But is it any good?

Well, in this short review of the product, I’m going to walk you through its key pros and cons — and help you find out.

My quick verdict on Semrush One

Semrush One mixes the platform’s classic SEO tools with an impressive new set of AI visibility tracking features; this combination gives ecommerce merchants a clear picture of how their brands are showing up in both traditional search results and newer, AI-generated ones. It’s a data-rich, forward-looking version of the platform that reflects where search is heading — towards instant answers and conversational responses, rather than simple lists of links.

The main drawbacks to using Semrush One are its fairly high price, its lack of multi-user access and a few gaps in its AI tool coverage (Claude, Perplexity and Meta AI are not currently catered for). But if you’re after a visibility platform that helps you keep up with the changing search landscape (and make data-driven changes to your online store to reflect it), I’d argue that Semrush One represents a very good starting point.

Overall score: 4.4 / 5

Advantages of using Semrush One

1. It gives you access to SEO and visibility data in one place

If you run an online store, you need to know not just how your brand and products rank in Google, but whether AI tools are recommending you too.

Semrush One’s USP is that it lets you monitor these two worlds side by side — it shows you how your brand is performing both in AI tools and traditional search results.

In terms of the AI visibility tracking features provided, these are comprehensive; Semrush one tells you:

  • how AI platforms are talking about your brand
  • whether your site is cited in AI-generated answers
  • how often your brand appears in generative results
  • which prompts trigger your presence in LLM-based searches
  • whether AI agents can crawl your site
  • how your content visibility is changing over time
  • how competitors are currently appearing in AI responses.

But as I discuss shortly, you also get access to a host of sophisticated SEO features from Semrush One too — and these help you stay on top of traffic generation via traditional search engines.

2. It lets you conduct prompt research

More shoppers than ever are using conversational search in AI tools to find products — for example, “What’s the best budget espresso machine?” or “What’s the EV with the longest range? In many ways, prompts are becoming the new keywords.

Semrush One recognizes this, letting you view and track real prompts from ChatGPT Search and Google AI Mode users. This in turn helps you generate new content ideas that match shopper behavior.

3. It lets you understand brand sentiment

Semrush One doesn’t just show you when AI platforms mention your store — it shows you how they describe it. Are they positioning your products as premium? Budget? Sustainable? Are they misunderstanding what you sell?

Having access to this sort of data is hugely useful if you’re building an ecommerce brand and want to shape your content so that AI tools represent you accurately.

4. It still provides access to excellent SEO features

Despite its focus on AI visibility, Semrush One gives you access to all the key SEO functionality that Semrush is known for. This is really important — because despite the increasing adoption of AI as discovery tools, Google still dominates the search landscape.

Amongst other SEO tools, Semrush One gives you:

  • domain analysis features
  • keyword research tools
  • backlink data
  • a site auditing tool.

It also provides you a search position monitoring tool that factors in the presence of your content in Google AI Overviews.

I’ve always found Semrush’s SEO features to be exceptionally good — it’s a platform that has been developed over many years, and the SEO tools bundled with Semrush One reflect that.

The reporting limits are generous too by comparison to many competing tools — on its entry-level plan, Semrush One lets you pull 3,000 SEO reports per day.

5. Its customer support options are comprehensive

Semrush offers customer support via phone, email and live chat — a much more comprehensive offering than provided by competing platforms I’ve used in the past.

(For context, Moz only offers email support, and Ahrefs doesn’t provide any phone support.).

Importantly contact details are relatively easy to find on the Semrush website too — you don’t have to jump through a bunch of hoops to find them.

Disadvantages of using Semrush One

1. It isn’t cheap

At $199 per month, Semrush One isn’t cheap. And access to key Semrush tools like its Traffic & Marketing Analytics and its Advertising Toolkit involves paying for expensive add-ons, further pushing up the price (sometimes so much so that your add-ons bill can often significantly exceed your base subscription costs).

2. Only one seat is provided per plan

Semrush only gives you access to one user account, regardless of plan, and buying more seats costs between $45 and $100.

This is obviously not a big deal if you’re just working by yourself — but if you’ve got a team or are working in an agency context, you’re going to find your monthly subscription fees can end up being quite significant.

3. AI coverage is currently incomplete

Semrush One lets you track yoru ecommerce brand across ChatGPT Search, Google AI Overview and Google AI Mode — but doesn’t cater for Claude, Perplexity or Meta AI. Given the increasing popularity of these three tools, I’d love to see support for them added soon.

4. Keyword research data is only provided for Google

Semrush’s keyword research tools are extremely good — but they have one significant downside, in that they only give you data relating to Google search results.

Now, it has to be said that Google remains the dominant player globally — but search engine usage can vary by country.

It would also be good to see more of a focus on position tracking for the Bing search engine (given OpenAI’s increasing involvement with it, and its importance in the space).

Real-world user reviews of Semrush

So far in this Semrush One review, you’ve heard my take on the platform. But how do its users feel about it? To help you get a sense of this, I’ve collated data from key software review sites. At time of writing (November 2025), the user ratings I was seeing across the sites I looked at was as follows:

Review site

Capterra

4.6

G2

4.5

TrustPilot

2.3

TrustRadius

4.4

Average

3.9 out of 5

* score originally out of 10, but recalculated as an out of 5 score

As you can see, Semrush achieves an average rating of 3.9 out of 5 across these four comparison sites, based on 7,062 reviews.

One thing that you should be aware of however is that these reviews relate to Semrush in general, not a particular version of it (i.e., some reviews may be for Semrush One; but given that Semrush One is a fairly new product, most will be for the older version of the platform).

For the record, based on my own experience of Semrush One, I’d rate it at 4.4 out of 5. The marks it loses are because of its relatively high costs (especially those driven up by having to purchase additional seats).

Semrush One review verdict

Overall, Semrush One is one of the most sophisticated visibility tools available to ecommerce merchants. It blends traditional SEO with AI-search analysis in one workflow, giving you a much clearer view of how shoppers find your products, or what you need to do to reach more of them.

The downsides? The high price, the ‘one-seat-per-plan’ situation, the locking of functionality behind add-ons and the incomplete AI coverage. But if you’re serious about growing visibility for your ecommerce brand across both AI and Search, Semrush One is a very good place to start.
